An orange alert has been issued for Kolhapur and Satara districts in western Maharashtra and for coastal areas for August 18 and 19 with the prediction of heavy to very heavy rains at remoted locations in ghat areas, the Met division mentioned on Monday.

A forecast of sunshine to average rains is made for Pune and adjoining areas of the district for the following two days, an official mentioned.

Issuing an orange alert, the Met division has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at remoted locations in coastal areas within the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The southwest monsoon would stay energetic over Maharashtra for the following 4-5 days which is able to trigger sturdy spells of showers,” an official mentioned in Mumbai.

In the meantime, water ranges of Krishna, Warna and Koyna rivers in Sangli district have risen attributable to steady rains, officers mentioned, including that residents have been placed on alert.
